Squint surgery corrects this misalignment by carefully repositioning the muscles that control your eye movement, so both eyes work together in harmony once again. Our expert follows a precise, minimum-intervention philosophy: doing exactly what is needed to achieve optimal results.

I saw Professor Jeeva today for a consultation regarding lower blephoroplasty. I was made very welcome and put at ease. The procedure was explained to me and I was encouraged to ask as many questions I wanted. I wasn't made to feel rushed or pressured into anything and left feeling that if I do decide to proceed I will be in safe hands.
Alison SmithMy mum Maureen Astles had a Zoom consultation with Mr Jeeva this morning. What a lovely surgeon he was helpful informative and such a nice smile putting her totally at ease. She is now looking forward to meeting him in person for surgery as she knows she will be in the best hands for a successful outcome.
Catherine AstlesI would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr Jeeva, my surgeon and all the doctors and staff at the centre. The care I received from start to finish was exceptional. I felt at ease and was reassured throughout the procedure, feeling safe the entire time. I cannot thank you enough and will definitely be recommending your services to family and friends.
Denise DouthwaiteWhat is Squint Surgery?
A squint, also medically known as strabismus, occurs when your eyes are misaligned and do not naturally point in the exact same direction. Squint surgery is a common, highly refined, and safe procedure designed to correct this misalignment and restore your vision to harmony.
Guided by the clinical philosophy that simplicity is the greatest sophistication, the operation focuses on gently adjusting the tiny muscles around your eyeball that control how your eyes move.

Why Choose Squint Eye Surgery?
You may benefit from squint surgery if your eyes are causing any of the following:
Not every squint requires surgery. During your consultation, our expert will conduct a thorough assessment and discuss all available options, including glasses, prisms, and eye exercises, before recommending the most appropriate course of action for you.
Benefits of Squint Eye Surgery
Improved eye alignment for a more natural, confident appearance
Reduced or eliminated double vision in suitable patients
Better depth perception and 3D vision
Relief from squint-related headaches and eye strain
Prevention of lazy eye (amblyopia) in children when treated early
Restored ability to drive, read, and work without visual disruption
How Does Squint Operation Work?
Our surgeon makes a small opening in the clear surface of the eye (the conjunctiva) to access the eye muscles. Depending on your individual case, the muscle is either tightened or repositioned to bring the eyes into better alignment. Fine stitches are then used to secure the muscles in their new position.
The procedure is typically performed under a general anaesthetic and takes up to 60 minutes, depending on how many muscles require adjustment. Most patients go home the same day, usually within a few hours of waking from the anaesthetic.
Squint Eye Surgery Consultation Process
We believe that clarity begins long before your procedure. Our consultation process is designed to be transparent, unhurried, and entirely focused on your well-being.
The Free Phone Assessment
Your journey begins with a relaxed, 15-minute telephone conversation with one of our team. We will listen carefully to your symptoms and concerns, explain your options in plain English, and help determine whether squint surgery may be the right path for you.
The Clinical Consultation
You will meet your consultant for a comprehensive eye examination. Our orthoptist will take precise measurements of your squint and assess how your eyes are working together. Advanced diagnostic technology provides a comprehensive picture of your eye health, enabling us to recommend the most appropriate treatment plan for your specific case. Every question is welcome, and we take as much time as you need.
Your Treatment Day
Your surgery will be performed as a day-case procedure, meaning you arrive, have your operation, and return home the same day. The procedure typically takes up to 60 minutes, and our entire team is focused on ensuring you feel comfortable and cared for throughout. Following our minimum intervention philosophy, we do precisely what is needed to achieve the very best result.
Aftercare & Follow-Up
Your recovery is every bit as important to us as the surgery itself. You will leave with a clear, easy-to-follow aftercare plan and the direct contact details of your surgical team. We schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and assess the outcome of your surgery. Should any fine-tuning be needed, we will discuss your options openly and promptly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Suitability depends on the type and degree of your squint, as well as your overall eye health. Children and adults of all ages can benefit from surgery. Our consultant will carry out a full assessment and confirm whether surgery is the most appropriate option for you, or whether glasses, prisms, or eye exercises may be more suitable at this stage.
Yes. Squint surgery is one of the most commonly performed eye operations and is considered very safe. According to research by the British Ophthalmic Surveillance Unit, severe complications occur in fewer than 3 in every 1,000 patients (0.3%). Our fellowship-trained consultant takes every precaution to ensure your safety and peace of mind throughout the process.
In some cases, a second procedure may be needed to refine eye alignment, particularly for larger squints or when a very precise result is required. This is something your consultant will discuss honestly with you before your treatment. Adjustable surgery can help reduce this likelihood for eligible patients.
Most patients experience a significant and noticeable improvement in eye alignment following surgery. Results are long-lasting and, for many patients, permanent. The final outcome is assessed at your three-month follow-up appointment. Where further fine-tuning is required, we discuss your options openly and without delay.
Some patients do experience temporary double vision after squint surgery, as the brain adjusts to the new position of the eyes. This typically settles within a few days to a few weeks. In rare cases, double vision may persist for longer, and further treatment may be considered. Your consultant will explain what to expect based on your specific case.
