Lozza 747I had implants with Dr Musa ten years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. They are brilliant. My sight both near and distant was very poor but since the op I've had no glasses no lenses and my sight has been super. It remains really good to this day. Thank you Dr Musa. Brilliant consultations and treatment for glaucoma since.
Kay FitbitI can highly recommend the Eye Doctor Clinic, and I am so pleased I went there. Dr Musa, Gemma and Jess are lovely. They are very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. My vision following surgery is great, and not having to wear glasses is fantastic.
Carol PeelWhat is Glaucoma Treatment?
Glaucoma is often called the silent thief of sight. It involves a buildup of fluid pressure that slowly damages the optic nerve, occurring when the eye’s natural drainage system becomes blocked or inefficient.
Glaucoma treatment is a precise medical procedure that helps lower this internal eye pressure. In simple terms, our surgeons create a new pathway for fluid to drain, or use advanced lasers to improve the natural drainage, effectively relieving the squeeze on your optic nerve.
Our expert approach follows a simple philosophy: the minimum intervention for the best possible result. This refined care stops the damage in its tracks, protecting your precious sight for the long term.

How Does a Glaucoma Operation Work?
A glaucoma operation is a precise procedure to lower internal eye pressure by improving how fluid leaves the eye. After we gently numb your eye with anaesthetic drops to ensure complete comfort, our surgeons use advanced techniques to either unblock existing drains or create a tiny, new drainage channel.
The process typically takes 15–45 minutes, depending on the technique used. Our expert’s precise approach stabilises your sight and significantly reduces your daily reliance on complex drop regimes.
You go home the same day, and most patients notice a meaningful reduction in symptoms within days of the procedure.
Glaucoma Surgical Options
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty
A 5-minute, non-invasive laser that stimulates the eye's natural drainage. Performed in clinic with no incisions, it is often the first surgical step for open-angle glaucoma.
Trabeculectomy
Creates a small new drainage channel under the upper eyelid, allowing fluid to bypass the blocked drain. Highly effective for advanced or progressive glaucoma.
Deep Sclerectomy
Removes thin layers of scleral tissue to improve fluid outflow without fully opening the eye. Lowers pressure while keeping the risk of complications to a minimum.
Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery
Uses tiny stents or micro-incisions to improve drainage with minimal disruption to anatomy. Ideal for mild-to-moderate cases, often combined with cataract surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Suitability is confirmed through a clinical examination. Glaucoma treatment is typically recommended when drops no longer control pressure adequately or if your glaucoma is progressing despite medical treatment. Your consultant will review your eye pressure, nerve health, and visual fields to confirm the most appropriate option for you.
Yes, it is incredibly safe. Our surgeons are specialists with complication rates below 0.5%, and we provide direct telephone numbers for total peace of mind. All procedures are performed in a dedicated clinical environment with consultant-led care throughout.
Eye drops and laser (SLT) are often the first steps. However, if these fail to lower pressure sufficiently, surgery is the definitive way to protect the optic nerve from further permanent damage. Your consultant will discuss all options openly before recommending a course of action.
You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres. Your consultant will confirm exactly when your pressure is stable enough and your vision meets the required standard for you to drive safely. Do not drive until you have been given this clearance.
Whilst initial rest takes a few days, full pressure stability can take up to 10 weeks. We provide ongoing follow-up appointments to ensure your eye pressure remains at the target level and that your recovery is progressing well.
