What a great experience! Very reassuring and I am very grateful for the consultation from Dr Musa he was so helpful in helping me make a decision to proceed to having eye correction surgery. I have the upmost confidence in him and the team at the Eye Doctor Clinic, Huddersfield.

I had implants with Dr Musa ten years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. They are brilliant. My sight both near and distant was very poor but since the op I've had no glasses no lenses and my sight has been super. It remains really good to this day. Thank you Dr Musa. Brilliant consultations and treatment for glaucoma since.

I can highly recommend the Eye Doctor Clinic, and I am so pleased I went there. Dr Musa, Gemma and Jess are lovely. They are very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. My vision following surgery is great, and not having to wear glasses is fantastic.

Why We Chose ZEISS

The lens matters as much as the surgeon. We work with one lens maker, closely enough that our results are presented back to their own surgeons.

ZEISS

From capturing the Moon landing to restoring your vision: over 175 years of ZEISS precision optics.

The same company, and the same standard for precision optics, behind the trifocal lenses we implant.

Istanbul, 2026

Presented at the ZEISS User Meeting

Mr Fayyaz Musa presented the outcomes from his first 20 consecutive bilateral cases to an audience of ZEISS surgeons.

His talk was about the conversation as much as the surgery: giving people the time to ask, being straight about the positives and the negatives, and treating spectacle independence as a journey rather than a single event.

How a ZEISS Trifocal Lens Works

Three points of focus from one lens

A trifocal lens splits incoming light into three focal points, so you can see near, intermediate and distance without switching glasses.

Your brain quickly learns to pick the image it needs, whether that is your phone, your laptop or the road ahead.

Trifocal lens focal pointsLight passes through the lens and focuses at three points: near at 40 cm (+3.33 D), intermediate at 80 cm (+1.66 D) and distance.Near40 cm · +3.33 DIntermediate80 cm · +1.66 DDistanceFar
Near40 cmReading, your phone, menus and labels
Intermediate80 cmLaptop and computer screens, the car dashboard, cooking
DistanceFarDriving, TV, sport and faces across the room

What sets this optic apart

  • Three focal points, not twoA trifocal covers near, intermediate and distance. An extended depth of focus lens covers intermediate and distance, and a monofocal covers one distance only.
  • A toric version for astigmatismIf your cornea is not evenly curved, the toric version of the same lens corrects that at the same time, in the same operation.
  • Tuned to everyday distancesThe added power sits at +3.33 D for reading and +1.66 D for screens, which is where most of the day actually happens.

Figures are from our first 20 consecutive bilateral ELANA cases and are not a general success rate. Individual results vary, and what you can expect is discussed at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The eye is numbed with drops, so you feel mild pressure at most. Each eye takes about fifteen minutes and you go home the same day. Some grittiness for a few days afterwards is normal.

It depends on the lens. A monofocal lens is clear at one distance, so reading glasses are usually still needed. Trifocal lenses cover near, intermediate and distance, so most patients use glasses far less. Your consultant will explain what is realistic for your eyes.

Most patients see more clearly within a few days, though vision can take a few weeks to settle fully. You will use eye drops for a few weeks and attend a follow-up. Your consultant will advise on driving, exercise and swimming.

Yes. Both eyes are usually treated on separate days, so the first can settle and be checked before the second.

A monofocal lens is clear at one distance, usually far, so reading glasses are still needed. A trifocal lens covers near, intermediate and distance, so patients rely on glasses far less. Your consultant will help you choose.
