Lozza 747I had implants with Dr Musa ten years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. They are brilliant. My sight both near and distant was very poor but since the op I've had no glasses no lenses and my sight has been super. It remains really good to this day. Thank you Dr Musa. Brilliant consultations and treatment for glaucoma since.
Kay FitbitI can highly recommend the Eye Doctor Clinic, and I am so pleased I went there. Dr Musa, Gemma and Jess are lovely. They are very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. My vision following surgery is great, and not having to wear glasses is fantastic.
Carol PeelWhat is Glaucoma Medical Management?
Doctors often call glaucoma the silent thief of sight, because increased fluid pressure gradually damages the optic nerve. This pressure occurs when the eye's natural drainage system becomes blocked or inefficient, which can lead to permanent vision loss if left unmanaged.
Glaucoma management is care that helps lower the pressure inside your eye. In simple terms, our surgeons create a new pathway for fluid to drain, or use advanced lasers to improve the natural drainage, effectively relieving the squeeze on your optic nerve. Our expert approach follows a simple philosophy: the minimum intervention for the best possible result.

Coming SoonWhy Choose Glaucoma Medical Management?
Glaucoma damage is permanent, but the right management stops it from getting worse. You might benefit from a tailored glaucoma plan if you are dealing with any of the following:
Your consultant will check your eye pressure, optic nerve health, and visual fields, then recommend the safest, most comfortable way to bring your pressure under control.
How Does Glaucoma Medical Management Work?
Glaucoma management works by lowering the pressure inside your eye and keeping it low over the long term. Here is how we approach it at the clinic.
Step by Step
We measure the critical factors: eye pressure, the health of your optic nerve, and your field of vision, so we know how serious the damage is.
We start with the mildest option: special eye drops that reduce fluid in the eye or help it drain away.
If drops fall short, or you would rather not use them daily, a simple SLT laser improves your eye's natural drainage.
Monitoring continues for life, with regular checks. If drops and SLT are not enough, a full range of surgery is available.

Your Glaucoma Management Options
Prescription Eye Drops
Eye drops are the cornerstone of glaucoma management and usually the first treatment we try. Used once or twice a day, they lower your eye pressure by reducing fluid production or improving drainage. We will find the drop, or combination of drops, that best controls your pressure with the fewest side effects, and review how you are doing at every appointment.
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
SLT is a quick, non-invasive laser treatment that takes about 5 minutes and requires no incisions. It gently stimulates your eye's natural drainage system, so fluid leaves the eye more easily and your pressure comes down. We carry it out right here in the clinic, and it is often the first treatment we recommend for open-angle glaucoma, either alongside drops or to reduce how many drops you need.
When Management Moves to Surgery
Most people keep their glaucoma stable with drops, laser, and monitoring. But if your pressure stays high or your glaucoma keeps progressing, surgery becomes the most reliable way to protect your optic nerve. Our consultants offer the full range:
- Trabeculectomy creates a new, small drainage channel beneath the upper eyelid, allowing fluid to bypass the blocked channel. It is highly effective for advanced or progressing glaucoma.
- Deep sclerectomy removes thin layers of tissue from the white of the eye to improve fluid outflow, without fully opening the eye. It lowers pressure while keeping the risk of complications to a minimum.
- Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) uses tiny stents or micro-incisions to improve drainage with very little disruption to the eye. It suits mild-to-moderate cases and is often combined with cataract surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most people with glaucoma begin with medical management. It is usually the right choice if your glaucoma is mild to moderate, or if drops and laser can keep your pressure under control. We confirm this with a clinical examination of your eye pressure, optic nerve, and visual fields.
Yes, it is very safe. Eye drops and SLT laser are gentle, well-established treatments, and when surgery is needed, our specialists achieve complication rates below 0.5%. You will also have direct telephone numbers for complete peace of mind.
If drops do not suit you or stop working well enough, SLT laser is an excellent alternative that can reduce or replace your daily drops. If neither controls your pressure, surgery is the most reliable way to protect your optic nerve. Your consultant will talk you through every option before you decide.
You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres. Your consultant will tell you exactly when your vision and pressure meet the standard for safe driving.
After SLT laser, most people get back to normal the same day, though your pressure can take up to 10 weeks to fully stabilise. With eye drops, we review you regularly to make sure your pressure stays on target for the long term.
