VISION CORRECTION

ICL Implantation in Huddersfield

ICL surgery is a gentle, precise procedure that places a soft, flexible lens inside your eye to correct your vision. It works with your natural eye, rather than changing it, so you keep all of your eye's own structure intact. Whether you are short-sighted, long-sighted, or have astigmatism, our expert-led ICL surgery can free you from the daily burden of glasses and contact lenses.

I had implants with Dr Musa ten years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. They are brilliant. My sight both near and distant was very poor but since the op I've had no glasses no lenses and my sight has been super. It remains really good to this day. Thank you Dr Musa. Brilliant consultations and treatment for glaucoma since.

I can highly recommend the Eye Doctor Clinic, and I am so pleased I went there. Dr Musa, Gemma and Jess are lovely. They are very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. My vision following surgery is great, and not having to wear glasses is fantastic.

What is ICL Implantation?

ICL stands for Implantable Collamer Lens. It is a tiny, soft lens that is carefully placed inside your eye, just behind the coloured part (the iris) and in front of your natural lens. Think of it as a permanent contact lens that lives inside your eye — one that you cannot see, cannot feel, and never needs to clean or replace.

Unlike laser eye surgery, ICL does not reshape or remove any tissue from the surface of your eye. Instead, it simply adds a high-quality corrective lens to work alongside your eye's natural structure. This is why ICL is often called additive vision correction.

The lens is made from Collamer, a material that is 100% compatible with the human body and contains built-in UV protection. Our expert follows the same precise, patient-first approach for every ICL procedure performed at The Eye Doctor Clinic.

Why Choose ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) Implantation?

ICL surgery may be the right choice for you if you experience any of the following:

Short-sightedness (myopia) that makes distant objects appear blurry
Long-sightedness (hyperopia) that makes it difficult to focus on close objects
Astigmatism that causes blurred or distorted vision at all distances
A prescription that is too strong for laser eye surgery to correct safely
Thin or irregularly shaped corneas that make you unsuitable for laser treatment
Dry eye problems that make laser surgery a less suitable option for you
A wish to stop relying on glasses or contact lenses every single day
A desire for a reversible vision correction option, in case your needs change in the future

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for ICL surgery. During your consultation, our expert will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your eyes and discuss all available options with you, so you can make a fully informed decision.

Benefits of ICL Implantation Surgery

Clear vision across a wide range of prescriptions, including very high ones

No removal of corneal tissue, so the natural structure of your eye is fully preserved

Suitable for patients with thin corneas or dry eyes who cannot have laser surgery

Natural-looking lens with built-in UV protection, so no dry eye symptoms appear

Reversible if ever clinically needed in the future

Fast recovery, with most patients seeing clearly the following day

How Does the ICL Implantation Procedure Work?

Before your procedure begins, numbing drops are placed in your eye to help you feel comfortable throughout. You will be awake during the procedure, but you will not feel any pain.

Our surgeon makes a very small keyhole opening, just 2 to 3 millimetres wide, at the edge of your cornea. The ICL is folded and gently inserted through this tiny opening using a specialist delivery device. Once inside the eye, the lens unfolds naturally and settles into position behind the iris and in front of your natural lens.

No stitches are required in most cases because the opening is so small that it seals on its own. The entire process is carefully guided and precise to achieve the very best result. Most patients notice a clear improvement in their vision within hours of the procedure.

ICL Implantation Consultation Process

We want you to feel fully informed, confident, and relaxed at every stage. Our no-pressure journey is designed to be as clear and straightforward as the vision we aim to restore.

01

The Free Phone Assessment

Your journey begins with a relaxed 15-minute telephone call with a member of our team. We will listen to your concerns, learn about your vision and lifestyle goals, and give you an honest first idea of whether ICL surgery may be right for you — all before you visit the clinic.

02

The Clinical Consultation

You will meet Dr Musa for a thorough eye assessment. We use advanced diagnostic technology to measure the size and shape of your eye, check the health of your cornea, and confirm your exact prescription. These measurements are used to order a lens precisely made for your eye. We will walk you through everything we find and answer every question you have, with no rush and no pressure.

03

Your Treatment Day

ICL surgery is a day-case procedure, so you arrive, have your treatment, and return home on the same day. Each eye takes around 20 to 30 minutes. Numbing drops ensure you are comfortable throughout. You will rest in our care for a short time after your procedure before one of your contacts collects you. You cannot drive on the day of surgery, so please arrange a lift in advance.

04

Aftercare and Follow-Up

Your recovery is just as important to us as your surgery. You will receive a clear aftercare plan with simple, easy-to-follow instructions, along with the direct contact details of your surgical team. We schedule follow-up appointments to check your eye pressure, confirm the position of your lens, and ensure your vision is settling in beautifully. We are always available if you have any questions or concerns during your recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

ICL surgery is suitable for most adults aged 21 to 60 who have a stable prescription and healthy eyes. It is especially well-suited to people with strong prescriptions, thin corneas, dry eyes, or those who have been told they cannot have laser eye surgery. Your consultant will carry out a full assessment to confirm your suitability at your clinical consultation.

Yes. ICL surgery has an excellent safety record, with over one million lenses implanted worldwide. The procedure is approved and CE marked for use in the UK. As with any surgery, there are small risks, and your consultant will explain these clearly so that you can make a fully informed decision. Choosing an experienced, accredited surgeon, as you will find at The Eye Doctor Clinic, significantly reduces the likelihood of complications.

No. Numbing drops are used before the procedure begins, so you should not feel any pain. Some patients feel a little pressure or mild discomfort during the procedure, but this is brief. Afterwards, your eye may feel slightly gritty or sensitive for a day or two, which is completely normal. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the experience is.

Many patients notice a significant improvement in their vision within just a few hours of surgery. Your vision may be a little blurry or hazy at first as your eye settles. Most patients can see clearly enough to return to work the very next day. Full visual clarity is usually reached within four to six weeks, as the eye continues to heal and adjust.

ICL surgery provides a long-lasting correction that is designed to be permanent. However, one of the key advantages of ICL over laser eye surgery is that the lens can be removed or replaced if your vision changes significantly in the future, such as when cataract surgery becomes necessary later in life. This gives you added peace of mind and future flexibility.
