I had implants with Dr Musa ten years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. They are brilliant. My sight both near and distant was very poor but since the op I've had no glasses no lenses and my sight has been super. It remains really good to this day. Thank you Dr Musa. Brilliant consultations and treatment for glaucoma since.

I can highly recommend the Eye Doctor Clinic, and I am so pleased I went there. Dr Musa, Gemma and Jess are lovely. They are very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. My vision following surgery is great, and not having to wear glasses is fantastic.

What is Eye Laser Vision Correction?

Laser vision correction is a highly refined treatment designed to permanently fix common focusing errors that impact your vision. When the eye is shaped irregularly, light cannot focus properly on the back of the eye, causing your vision to be blurry.

As most issues occur due to changes either in the corneas or lenses, our ophthalmologist will adjust how the different parts of your eyes work to correct the errors. The procedure gently alters the shape of your cornea, which is the clear dome at the front of your eye.

The doctor focuses on the minimum intervention needed to give you the best possible result. This restores your sight and independence, allowing you to live a seamless day without constantly searching for your glasses.

Your eyes will be carefully assessed to confirm your suitability for this procedure

How Does Laser Vision Correction Work?

Laser vision correction works by gently numbing your eye with drops before guiding a computer-controlled laser to remove microscopic amounts of corneal tissue, reshaping it so light focuses precisely on the retina.

The entire treatment is quick and refined — typically 10–15 minutes per eye. Most patients notice dramatically clearer vision within hours, with full stabilisation over the following weeks.

01Anaesthetic drops applied — eyes numbed for complete comfort
02Thin corneal flap created by femtosecond laser (LASIK)
03Excimer laser reshapes corneal tissue with microscopic precision
04Flap repositioned — adheres naturally, no stitches required
05Vision improves within hours; full stabilisation over weeks

Laser Vision Correction Options

LASIK SURGERY

LASIK Surgery

LASIK is the most common type of laser eye treatment. The surgeon creates a tiny, protective flap on your cornea, uses a laser to gently reshape the tissue underneath, and then places the flap back down. Healing is very quick, and most people enjoy incredibly clear vision within 24 hours.

  • Most common laser procedure
  • Clear vision within 24 hours
  • Rapid, comfortable recovery
  • Suitable for most prescriptions
LASEK SURGERY

LASEK Surgery

LASEK is a slightly different approach where only the very thin uppermost layer of the eye, called the epithelium, is moved aside. The laser then reshapes the cornea underneath to improve your sight. Best for patients with thinner corneas. Initial healing time may take a few days longer than LASIK.

  • Ideal for thinner corneas
  • No corneal flap created
  • Same laser precision as LASIK
  • Slightly longer healing time

Laser Vision Correction Consultation Process

01

The Phone Assessment

Your journey begins with a relaxed conversation. We discuss your prescription history, explain your options in plain English, and determine your initial suitability before you visit the clinic.

02

The Clinical Consultation

You will meet your consultant for a comprehensive eye exam. We use advanced diagnostics to measure the shape and thickness of your cornea and determine whether LASIK or LASEK is the safest clinical option for your eyes.

03

Your Treatment Day

The actual laser procedure is a quick one; you will be in the clinic for around 90 minutes. Numbing drops are used for a painless procedure as you focus on a target light as the computer-guided laser performs corrections needed for the eye.

04

Aftercare

You will receive a clear care plan, a protective eye shield for sleeping, and prescribed drops to prevent infection and soothe dry eyes. We schedule routine follow-up appointments to ensure your cornea is healing perfectly.

Am I a Suitable Candidate?

Ideal Candidates

  • Aged 21 or older with a stable prescription for at least 1–2 years
  • Myopia up to −10.00, hyperopia up to +6.00, or astigmatism up to 6.00
  • Sufficient corneal thickness (confirmed during assessment)
  • Good general eye health — no keratoconus, glaucoma, or significant cataracts
  • Good overall health — no uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune conditions

May Not Be Suitable

  • Under 21 or with an unstable/changing prescription
  • Corneas that are too thin for safe treatment
  • Existing eye conditions such as keratoconus or severe dry eye
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding (hormones can affect prescription)
  • Very high prescriptions beyond the treatable range

The only way to know for certain is a comprehensive assessment. Even if LASIK isn't right for you, alternatives such as LASEK, ICL, or lens replacement may achieve the same goal.

Laser Vision Correction FAQs

While many people can benefit from laser eye surgery, you may not be eligible if you are under 21 years old, have an unstable eye prescription, or very thin corneas. The procedure is also not recommended for people with certain eye conditions such as severe dry eyes, glaucoma, or significant cataracts.

While no medical procedure is 100% without risk, laser eye surgery is considered highly safe with a very high success rate. Serious complications are very rare, occurring in approximately 1 in 10,000 to 20,000 cases.

Yes. Astigmatism means your cornea is slightly unevenly shaped. The advanced, computer-guided laser used in our clinic can precisely reshape this uneven curve to permanently improve your focus.

Laser eye surgery to correct common issues like short-sightedness or astigmatism is generally considered an elective procedure and is not usually offered on the NHS. It is almost exclusively available through private clinics.

For the vast majority of patients, the reshaping of the cornea is permanent, providing excellent long-term results. However, it is normal for your eyes to naturally change as you age. Decades later, you may still develop presbyopia (the natural need for reading glasses as you get older) or cataracts.
